Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), has announced the expansion of its fibre-optic network cooperation with regional provider NetCologne. The agreement, which began in 2013, has been extended for a further ten years and will now also include mutual access to gigabit-capable fibre-optic infrastructure. The cooperation encompasses around two million households in the metropolitan region of Cologne and the greater Aachen area (via NetAachen) that will in the future be able to access high speed infrastructure via both NetCologne and Telekom.
‘With NetCologne, our new market model is now being used for the first time on a regional level. This shows how flexibly we respond to the needs of our regional partners,’ commented Dido Blankenburg, the Telekom board member responsible for broadband cooperation, adding: ‘And first and foremost, our customers benefit from this, because they can now access our entire product range. At the same time, we are meeting our claim to have a stronger presence in Germany’s metropolises, especially with FTTH’.
