ZICTA awards fourth licence to Beeline Telecoms

22 Feb 2021

Sector watchdog the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has awarded the nation’s fourth mobile operator licence to Beeline Telecoms, reportedly a wholly Zambian-owned company, Zambia Reports writes. The company is required to begin operations within six months of the allocation of the licence. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the ZICTA had originally awarded the licence to UZI Zambia – a unit of Netherlands-registered Unitel International Holdings – in March 2018 but withdrew the concession in June 2020 after the company failed to launch within the timeframe stipulated by the regulator, despite the ZICTA twice postponing the deadline.
