Colombian telco Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) and Latin American wholesaler Ufinet have revealed that they have signed an agreement to create a company that will commercialise a neutral fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) wholesale network serving Bogota and its nearby towns. The network will initially pass 1.2 million homes, rising to 2.5 million within three years. The agreement is subject to pre-evaluation by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio, SIC).
TeleGeography notes that Ufinet, which is headquartered in Madrid, currently presides over more than 75,000km of fibre in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.
