T-Mobile’s 2G, 3G shutdown dates leaked

8 Feb 2021

Prospective shutdown dates for T-Mobile’s 2G and 3G networks in the US have been published by unofficial company blog, The T-Mo Report, which cites correspondence sent to the cellco’s business customers. As per the letter, T-Mobile has blocked new activations for 2G/3G-only devices since 30 January and plans to shut down its 3G network on 1 October 2021. The legacy Sprint CDMA network will be deactivated on or around 1 January 2022 and T-Mobile’s 2G network will follow on 31 December 2022. In a tweak to the timeline, however, a ‘reliable source’ informed the blog that the 3G network has been given a slight reprieve, and is now likely to remain live until April 2022.
