TIM presents open access fibre plan to cover 1,600 markets by 2025

1 Feb 2021

Telecom Italia (TIM) has presented the Communications Regulatory Authority (Autorita per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni, Agcom) with its plan for a co-investment offer to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks across the country. Under the scheme, TIM’s FiberCop unit, which is 58%-owned by the telco, aims to reach 1,610 municipalities in so-called ‘black’ and ‘grey’ urban and semi-urban areas by 2025. The network rollout is expected to cover 75% of properties within these areas and is open to all operators, who can choose either to participate in the whole project or on a market-by-market basis. The US investment fund KKR owns 37.5% of FiberCop, while ISP Fastweb holds the remaining 4.5%.
