Orange Caraibe launches VoLTE; SmartFibre network in St Barths under maintenance

Orange Caraibe has activated VoLTE services in Guadeloupe and Martinique, with plans to deploy the new service in French Guiana, Saint-Martin and Saint Barthelemy in the course of 2021. VoLTE is currently available to users with an iPhone handset.

Elsewhere, Collectivite de Saint Barthelemy has announced that it will carry out ‘a major maintenance operation’ on its SmartFibre network from 3 February 2021. The maintenance work will be carried out in the districts of Grand Cul de Sac, Petit Cul de Sac and Toiny. The SmartFibre network – which commenced rollout in August 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2026 – will serve all 14 areas of Saint Barthelemy and will cost EUR14 million (USD17 million) to deploy.
