Finnish multi-service provider Elisa and Lounea, a company based in Salo, Southwest Finland, have announced a cooperation agreement under which they will establish a joint venture to construct fibre broadband infrastructure. In a press release regarding the development, it was noted that the duo will start developing initial pilot sites in the early part of 2021, and it is understood that fibre will be rolled out in areas where Lounea does not yet have a presence. Looking ahead, the companies will reportedly continue their rollout by taking into account the experience gained at the pilot sites, and ‘in accordance with customer demand’.
In terms of the partnership, Lounea will reportedly be responsible for the construction of the fibre infrastructure itself, and will sell services under the Elisa brand, while for Elisa’s part it will invoice subscribers and offer customer service. In confirming the partnership deal, Lounea noted that the arrangement had already gained approval from local competition authorities.
