Telenor Norge has called on Taiwanese vendor Zyxel to assist with its 5G fixed-wireless access (FWA) rollout, with the latter calling its selection ‘an important milestone for [the cellco’s] work in upgrading customers to 5G’. In a press release regarding the development, Zyxel noted that it will provide Telenor with its 5G NR FWA outdoor router, the NR 7101, which it said uses modern antenna technology and will enable Telenor Norge to provide customers with a smooth transition to 5G, while offering them access to its 4G network. All of Telenor Norge’s new 5G FWA customers are now being offered Zyxel’s 5G-ready FWA outdoor router, the company noted.
Commenting on the matter, Camilla Amundsen, CMO, Fixed and TV of Telenor Norway, said: ‘FWA is … an important part of Telenor’s network modernisation and our partnership with Zyxel makes this possible … Zyxel is helping Telenor reach an additional level of service for customers throughout Norway and oversee the world’s fastest, largest rollout of 5G FWA.’
Telenor Norge currently offers 5G in the following areas: Askvoll, Bodo, Bergen, Elverum, Fornebu, Froya, Heroya, Kongsberg, Kvitfjell, Spikersuppa (Oslo) and Trondheim. Meanwhile, the operator is also reported to be actively deploying 5G in Alesund, Fredrikstad, Kristiansand and Tromso, while it is targeting nationwide coverage by 2024.
