Zap Fibra fibre-optic services expanding in Luanda municipalities

13 Jan 2021

Jornal de Angola reports that high speed fixed broadband operator Zap Fibra is expanding its fibre-optic access network footprint in the first quarter of 2021 to reach more consumers in Talatona, a municipality in Luanda province, bordering Angola’s capital city Luanda. According to a statement from Zap Fibra, three districts of Talatona – Dangereux, Fubu and Honga – are all earmarked to receive fibre broadband/TV services in Q1 under the provider’s investment plan, alongside another municipality in Luanda province, Kilamba Kiaxi.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Zap Fibra is part of Angola’s Zap Media group, a nationwide pay-TV provider, controlled by Angolan tycoon Isabel dos Santos, although her shares are currently subject to a court-ordered asset freeze issued in December 2019. Zap Fibra began deploying fibre broadband internet services in 2017, exclusively bundled with Zap TV channels and on-demand/interactive TV/video features, and currently covers parts of Luanda city/province, with plans to expand to other main cities.
