Gilat Satellite Networks announced yesterday (11 January) that Filipino operator Globe Telecom has awarded it a multi-million US dollar managed service contract for the expansion of cellular backhaul over satellite services. The satellite networking developer says its solution will deliver a ‘robust end-to-end solution’ to help Globe meet its goal of providing high-quality services throughout the Philippines. With demand for data connectivity in the Philippines growing sharply, Gilat’s cellular backhaul over satellite option is designed to bring a quick solution, avoiding issues that hamper the swift rollout of fibre – particularly in areas with challenging terrain. In a press release, Gilat, claims its ‘SkyEdge II-c platform for 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, will provide Globe with a complete solution to provide its customers with the most resilient service’, adding, ‘Gilat’s solution provides Globe with flexibility, to seamlessly and quickly relocate VSATs between sites’.
