Huawei launches second appeal against Swedish 5G sale

8 Jan 2021

Chinese vendor Huawei has once again appealed against the terms of Sweden’s 5G licences, which the government is hoping to sell at auction later this month. Equipment from Huawei and fellow Chinese supplier ZTE has been banned from Sweden’s 5G networks on security grounds. Huawei initially managed to have the auction halted after its first appeal in November, but the local regulator, the Post and Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen, PTS), fought to have the ruling overturned and it subsequently announced that the auction would resume on 19 January.

A report from Reuters cites Huawei executive Kenneth Fredriksen as saying: ‘We believe it’s critical that the auction is once again stopped until the legal uncertainties are removed, either through court settlement or out of court settlements.’ Huawei is unhappy that the ban was imposed without giving it a chance to respond; it announced last month that it would be happy to work with authorities to reach a solution.
