Lithuanian mobile operator Bite has completed its acquisition of MEZON, the retail broadband and IPTV business of state-owned Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (LRTC, also known as Telecentras). In July 2020 Bite applied for authorisation to acquire 100% of MEZON, which consists of services provided under that brand and assets used to provide these services, such as the telecoms network, radio frequencies, customer base, sales network and the contracts with the employees. The takeover was approved last month by the Competition Council, on the condition that Bite must not lease or transfer MEZON’s 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz frequencies to Centuria, its joint infrastructure company with Tele2.
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Telecentras signed an agreement to sell its internet, data transmission and IPTV business to Bite for more than EUR20 million (USD24.4 million) in May 2020. Bite is managed by US private equity fund Providence Equity Partners.
