Verizon Wireless has announced that an additional 24 million customers now have access to its 5G network. Subscribers in Central Texas, Tulsa, Upstate New York and New England are now within 5G coverage areas, bringing the cellco’s total footprint to 230 million people in 2,700 cities. The 5G network – which was launched in October this year – utilises Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology, which allows 5G to run simultaneously on the same spectrum band as 4G.
In addition, Verizon notes that it has expanded access to its original millimetre wave (mmWave)-based 5G Ultra Wideband network, which now covers 61 cities. New locations served include Tampa, St Petersburg, Albuquerque and Durham.
