Giraffe extinct in Ukraine

17 Dec 2020

Ukrainian ISP Giraffe, a provider of wireless broadband access based on WiMAX and Canopy systems, announced on its website yesterday (16 December 2020) that it will cease ‘provision of telecommunications services’ on 31 January 2021. Ukraine’s National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR or NKRZI) stated that on 15 December it revoked the broadband spectrum licence of Intellectual Communications (Intellecom, trading as Giraffe) which covered all regions of Ukraine except Mykolaiv, adding that it had decided to put the concession up for competitive tender in the future.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that Giraffe’s 2.3GHz-2.4GHz licence was altered and reissued in April 2020 by the NCCIR due to a decrease in network coverage area, and was due to run until November 2025.
