3 launches 5G in Copenhagen and Roskilde

17 Dec 2020

Danish mobile network operator (MNO) Hi3G Access (3) has announced the official switch-on of its new 5G network in Copenhagen and Roskilde. In a press release, the operator said it is now continuing to deploy 5G in the rest of its network, while noting that ‘more than a million customers’ have been invited to try out the benefits of the advanced network ‘free of charge’, while the MNO builds out its network. 3 says that it expects to complete the rollout of its nationwide network by the summer of 2022.

Commenting on the launch, Morten Christiansen, CEO of 3 in Scandinavia, said: ‘Today is a big day for 3, because it is always exciting to launch new technology. However, it will be some time before 5G makes a noticeable difference in all customers’ everyday lives. Partly because we are still waiting for the lightning fast 5G frequencies, and partly because the rollout in the network takes time. But we think that customers should have the opportunity to join the journey while we build the space rocket. That is why we have made almost all subscriptions 5G-ready, so that customers can jump on board and try it when 5G comes to their local area if they have a 5G phone from 3.’
