C Spire swoops for Alabama-based Harbor Communications

16 Dec 2020

Privately-owned Mississippi-based mobile/fibre operator C Spire has acquired Mobile, Alabama-based Harbor Communications, which provides a range of voice and data services to consumers and businesses on the Alabama Gulf Coast via its all-fibre infrastructure. C Spire CEO Hu Meena commented: ‘Throughout its 32-year history, C Spire has grown both organically and through strategic acquisitions. Harbor is a great addition to our family and solidifies even further our efforts to become the dominant market player in Alabama and the Southeast region.’

Last week C Spire announced that it was making good on its promise to extend broadband services into neighbouring states, by starting to connect the first Alabama customers to its Gigabit fibre network. Jasper residents were first in line for connectivity, with parts of Trussville also set to start receiving access later this month. Additional communities, including Pelham, Helena, Northport, Tuscaloosa and parts of Mobile County, have executed franchise agreements with C Spire and are on the drawing board for construction and service in 2021.
