Fastweb and Linkem launch 5G FWA network

14 Dec 2020

Italian telcos Fastweb and Linkem have cooperated to launch 5G fixed-wireless access (FWA) networks in three towns in southern Italy. The pair plan to have coverage in 50 markets by the end of the month, offering download speeds of up to 1Gbps. The network will then be extended to 500 markets by end-2021 and around 2,000 by the end of 2023.

A co-investment deal signed by the two ISPs in December 2019 envisaged connecting eight million households with 5G FWA infrastructure, and in August the pair expanded the agreement to cover an additional four million premises in ‘digital divide’ areas.
