Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) and its wireless arm Mobitel have announced that as part of a commitment to deliver advanced connectivity solutions to rural parts of the island, they have extended voice and 4G LTE technology to the Kelinkanda area located in Baduraliya, southeast of the capital Colombo. The rollout is part of SLT’s commitment to the government’s ‘Gamata Sannivedanaya’ project which aims to reduce the digital divide in Sri Lanka. Mobitel pioneered sub-1GHz mobile broadband connectivity in Sri Lanka in 2019 and to date, has deployed over 1,600 4G LTE 900MHz sites across the island.
