Azercell, Azerbaijan’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has expanded its LTE network coverage significantly as part of a programme launched in 2019, reports Azernews. The operator claims its network covered 85% of the population as of late November, compared with 36% at the start of 2019. The number of LTE base stations has also increased rapidly over the same period, from 828 to 2,616, with 721 commissioned in the first ten months of this year. The geographic coverage of the 4G network has also been expanded from 33.3% at the beginning of last year to 69.5% as of 1 October 2020. In addition to its regional expansion efforts, Azercell is currently upgrading the LTE network in the city of Baku, including work to improve coverage in the Baku Metro.
