TIM’s FiberCop unit gets EC green light

30 Nov 2020

Telecom Italia (TIM) says the EC has approved its planned creation of a new last-mile networks business under the FiberCop name. The telco says that the Commission has decided that the operation – which consists of transferring TIM’s secondary network to FiberCop and the simultaneous entry of investment fund KKR (37.5%) and Fastweb (4.5%) – cannot be considered a concentration under EU legislation and therefore does not need to be notified under the European Merger Regulation. TIM plans to launch the FiberCop business in the first quarter of next year.
