Mobitel, the mobile arm of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has switched on its mobile signal in the remote village of Meeyagala, in Uva, Sri Lanka. The move followed a request from Oshada Senanayake, Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) in response to concerns that the area was lacking any form of internet access during the ongoing pandemic. In response, Mobitel reportedly established connectivity for Meeyagala ‘within a week’ by installing a repeater solution and plans were initiated to provide high-quality voice services and 4G LTE mobile broadband services for the area within three weeks.
