French telco Iliad has signed a new EUR300 million (USD356 million) financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support its mobile deployments in France, in particular to densify its 4G infrastructure and deploy its 5G network. Iliad says it has received financing of over EUR1.1 billion since 2009 to help fund its fixed and mobile network expansion. The group, which operates under the Free brand, now has more than 18,800 mobile sites throughout metropolitan France and covers 97.8% of the population with 4G.
‘We are delighted with this partnership with the EIB, which allows us to actively pursue the deployment and densification of our mobile networks. Providing the best connectivity to everyone and throughout the country is the meaning of our collective action at Iliad. We are going to continue our deployments at a sustained pace, in particular to launch our 5G offers soon and to enter the business market,’ declared Thomas Reynaud, CEO of the Iliad Group.
