17 Nov 2020

State-owned full-service provider Swisscom has selected Nokia as its exclusive fixed-wireless access partner and will deploy the Finnish vendor’s Nokia FastMile 5G Receivers in rural areas of the country from 2021. According to Nokia, the solution is capable of providing download speeds of up to 1Gbps, and its deployment will allow Swisscom to quickly meet demand for ultra-fast broadband in rural communities. President of Fixed Networks at Nokia Sandra Motley commented on the development: ‘5G fixed-wireless access is a perfect complement to fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. It can efficiently deliver ultra-fast speeds to areas that are unserved or under served by fibre. With the combined experience of Nokia and Swisscom, we were able to develop an innovative and effective solution.’
