Orange Group wins EUR2.2bn tax dispute

16 Nov 2020

French telecoms group Orange has won a tax dispute claim in the French State Council (Conseil d’Etat), which will allow it to reclaim more than EUR2.2 billion (USD2.6 billion) paid in July 2013. The company said that the tax dispute relates to the group’s 2005 integration of its Cogecom holding during an internal reorganisation. The group said it would allocate the funds ‘in a fair and balanced manner in a way that will benefit the development of the company, its employees and its shareholders.’ Upon the actual payment, the amount received – principal and interest – will be recorded as current tax income and will help reduce the company’s net debt. The sums received will not be subject to tax.
