New Zealand telco Spark has activated 5G mobile services in central areas of Dunedin, the second-largest city on the South Island. Dunedin is the third major location where Spark has launched 5G mobile services, following Palmerston North in July and central Auckland last month. The telco had previously launched 5G fixed-wireless broadband services in six other South Island towns last year under a pilot scheme. Spark’s mobile customers with a compatible handset will have free access to 5G services as part of their existing plans until at least July 2021. To promote the launch, the telco has teamed with Dunedin’s Animation Research for an augmented reality experience at four well-known murals in the city.
