Poste Senegal signs deal with Spacecom to boost rural connectivity

12 Nov 2020

Satellite communications service provider Spacecom has announced a multi-year agreement with La Poste, the Senegalese postal authority, to interconnect 200 post offices in remote areas of the country and provide internet access to local residents. Network communication will be migrated to the AMOS-17 satellite and connect La Poste’s existing VSAT equipment to its hub in Dakar, ensuring a quick and cost-effective process. La Poste claims the deal, which will double its current capacity, is a ‘huge leap forward’ that will enable it to bridge the digital divide by providing additional services and applications to rural customers across the country. A number of other satellite projects relating to internet connectivity are said to be under consideration by La Poste.
