The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen, PTS) has decided to postpone its 5G spectrum auction, despite assurances yesterday (10 November) that the sale would begin today as planned. The Administrative Court in Stockholm has upheld an appeal against the licence conditions by Huawei of China, meaning that a clause barring winning bidders from using its equipment in their 5G networks does not now apply.
The clause had been included against Huawei and another Chinese vendor, ZTE, due to security concerns. In a statement the PTS says it ‘will continue to analyse the administrative court’s decision and review the possibilities of starting the auction as soon as possible’. The auction is for spectrum in the 2.3GHz and 3.5GHz bands. Four firms have been cleared to participate in the sale: Telia, Net4Mobility (Telenor and Tele2), Tre and Teracom (Net1).
