China launches '6G experiment satellite'

China has launched what it claims is the world’s first ‘6G experiment satellite’, Xinhua reports. The orbiter will carry out a series of tests using high frequency terahertz spectrum. In addition, the satellite will also be used in smart city construction, disaster prevention and mitigation, land planning, environmental protection, and the monitoring of major infrastructure construction. Professor Xu Yangsheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering was quoted as saying of the development: ‘The launch of the 6G test satellite marks a breakthrough in the exploration of terahertz space communication technologies in China’s space field’.
