Safaricom pledges to push 4G coverage to 100% by year-end

Safaricom, Kenya’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has announced plans to expand 4G coverage to 100% by the end of the year as part of a new growth strategy which aims to establish Safaricom as a ‘purpose-led technology company’ by 2025. Explaining the company’s new approach, CEO Peter Ndegwa was quoted as saying: ‘We aim to create a technology business by developing new digital ecosystems in health, agriculture and education sectors as we aim to provide digital solutions for our customers.’ The official went on to note that Safaricom would prioritise micro/small-to-medium enterprise (MSME) customers, which he said that the operator would ‘empower through tailor-made services and products to enable these entrepreneurs to manage their businesses better.’
