Virgin Media extends access to gigabit speeds to London and Northern Ireland

6 Nov 2020

Virgin Media has announced the completion of what it has claimed is ‘the nation’s biggest ever gigabit switch-on’, with nearly three million homes in London and across Northern Ireland now able to benefit from next-generation connectivity. In a press release regarding the matter, the operator noted that residents living in the aforementioned areas can now make access its ‘Gig1’ broadband service, which offers downlink speeds of 1.1Gbps. According to Virgin Media the development means the total number of premises now able to sign up for its gigabit-speed services has increased to 6.8 million, representing 45% of its network. The latest expansion of the service represents the next step in the operator’s plan to bring gigabit broadband to its entire network of more than 15 million homes by the end of 2021.
