Liberty Latin America completes takeover of AT&T in PR, USVI

3 Nov 2020

Liberty Latin America (LLA) has confirmed that it completed its acquisition of AT&T’s wireless and wireline operations in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands on 31 October 2020. The transaction was based on an enterprise value of USD1.95 billion on a cash- and debt-free basis. Balan Nair, President and CEO of LLA, commented: ‘This is a great day for Liberty Latin America, the employees that will be joining us from AT&T, and most importantly the consumers and businesses in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands who will realise the benefits of this transaction.’

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, the deal secured regulatory approval last month after Puerto Rican fixed line operator WorldNet eased US government antitrust concerns by agreeing to acquire the fibre-based Columbus Communications network in the metropolitan San Juan area that LLA acquired as part of its purchase of Cable & Wireless Communications back in 2016.
