KPN acquires Sterk Midden-Drenthe network

The Netherlands’ KPN has agreed to acquire the fibre-optic network of cooperative Sterk Midden-Drenthe following unanimous approval from the coop’s Members Council. The network connects approximately 5,900 addresses located in the outskirts of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, consisting of 23 villages/centres. After the acquisition, which is expected to be completed by end-November 2020, the network will remain operating on an open fibre basis, accessible to various telecoms service providers, with the addition of KPN’s retail triple-play services from 2021. Financial details were not disclosed.
