26 Oct 2020

Ukrainian national fixed line operator Ukrtelecom has formed a network sharing partnership in Odessa with local ISP Sohonet, under which the latter is transferring some of its users from copper xDSL to fibre-based 1Gbps-capable broadband services. Over 3,000 users will be switched over to faster internet via the scheme in 2021. Ukrtelecom’s strategy director Igor Yaremchuk indicated that the telco’s partnership model could be expanded to other ISPs in other Ukrainian cities.

Ukrtelecom posted 8% year-on-year growth in internet service revenues in Q3 2020, to UAH520 million (USD18.2 million) representing 42% of its quarterly ‘Telecommunications Services’ revenues, with the telco reporting total revenue in July-September of over UAH1.6 billion. In the three-month period Ukrtelecom expanded its fibre broadband to more than 150 additional settlements, spending CAPEX of UAH145 million.
