Ooredoo expands FTTH to three new locations

Ooredoo Maldives has expanded its ‘SuperNet’ fibre-optic broadband service in Villimale (located in Kaafu Atoll), Dharavandhoo (an inhabited island of Baa Atoll) and Hoarafushi (Haa Alif Atoll). Customers in these locations are able to access fixed broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps. The Communications Authority of the Maldives (CAM) awarded an ISP licence to cellco Ooredoo in August 2015 and the firm launched commercial fixed telephony and broadband services in the capital Male in May 2016, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. Since then, FTTH services have been expanded to more than 20 islands, including Hulhumale, Vilufushi, Kulhudhuffushi, Villingili, Maradhoo, Eydhafushi, Maradhoo Feydhoo, Gahdhoo, Addu City and Maamigili.
