Liberty Latin America (LLA) has entered into a ‘consent judgement’ with the US Department of Justice (DoJ) regarding the previously announced USD1.95 billion acquisition of AT&T’s wireless and wireline operations in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. To meet the conditions in the consent judgement, LLA has agreed to divest part of its B2B operation in Puerto Rico. This divestiture is expected to close promptly, pending appropriate regulatory approval. LLA expects a preliminary court order in the next few days permitting it to close the transaction with AT&T on 31 October 2020.
Under the terms of the agreement, AT&T will retain FirstNet responsibilities for the two territories (i.e. maintaining connectivity for first responders) as well as continuing to serve DIRECTV satellite TV customers and certain global business customer relationships.
