Telia sees drop in sales in third quarter, though profit climbs

22 Oct 2020

Sweden’s Telia Company has reported a 2% year-on-year increase in net sales for the third quarter to SEK21.53 billion (USD2.47 billion), though on a like-for-like basis sales were down 3.7%. Adjusted EBITDA fell 0.2% to SEK8.21 billion (down 0.6% on a comparable basis). COVID-19 had an estimated SEK600 million impact on service revenues, driven by mainly lower roaming and advertising revenues. The estimated impact on adjusted EBITDA amounted to SEK300 million. Nevertheless, net income was up 5.9% at SEK2.57 billion.

The group had 16.93 million mobile lines in service across Scandinavia and the Baltic region at the end of September, including 2.62 million M2M connections. PSTN fixed telephone subscriptions dropped from 866,000 in September 2019 to 709,000 a year later, while VoIP lines were also down, from 707,000 to 603,000. The fixed broadband user total decreased to 2.90 million from 2.91 million.
