PLDT-Smart completes Sun rebrand

PLDT Inc. wireless arm Smart Communications says it has successfully completed the rebrand of ‘Sun Prepaid’ services to ‘Smart Prepaid’ with customers also retaining their existing Sun numbers while benefiting from what it terms as ‘access to expanded retail and customer care channels, data-packed GIGA offers alongside [top-up] offers, and a wider array of perks and rewards’. PLDT reported a total of 5.687 million Sun Prepaid subscribers at end-June 2020, down from 5.838 million the previous year, while ‘Sun Postpaid’ users totalled 958,053 (2Q19: 926,381).

TeleGeography notes that Smart’s 4G LTE network covers around 95% of the Philippines’ population, supported by PLDT’s fibre-optic infrastructure, which spanned 382,500km as of 31 August 2020.
