VodafoneZiggo launches gigabit internet throughout Amsterdam

13 Oct 2020

VodafoneZiggo has launched gigabit broadband services based on DOCSIS 3.1 technology covering 600,000 households and business premises across Amsterdam, enlarging its total gigabit footprint to over 1.5 million premises following earlier DOCSIS 3.1 rollouts in The Hague, Utrecht and parts of Rotterdam. By the end of 2020 further cities will be covered, namely Almere, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Groningen, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden, Lelystad, Nijmegen and Wageningen, bringing gigabit coverage to approximately three million of the 7.3 million premises passed by the Ziggo cable network.

Ziggo ‘Giga’ packages consist of internet with 1Gbps download/50Mbps upload, an extensive TV channel package with interactive Mediabox Next, Ziggo Movies & Series (Home or HBO), Ziggo Sport, Ziggo GO mobile TV app, and a landline telephone connection.

The Amsterdam cable network was technically prepared for gigabit internet via installation of more than 820,000 new premises connectors and replacement of over 77,000 connection cables in 42,360 street cabinets. The project required over 100km of new network cabling in street cabinets and local exchanges.
