Tigo Panama – which was known as Movistar until 27 August this year – has confirmed that it has rebranded its B2B units Telecarrier and Movistar Negocios as Tigo Business. The switchover took place on 25 September.
In February 2019 European telecoms group Millicom International Cellular (MIC) agreed a USD1.65 billion takeover for 100% of Telefonica Moviles Panama, Telefonica de Costa Rica and Telefonia Celular de Nicaragua. The Panamanian component of the deal, which was valued at EUR573.0 million (USD650.1 million), closed in August 2019.
TeleGeography notes that the Movistar takeover was carried out via Millicom’s fixed line unit, Cable Onda, which was itself acquired in December 2018. The latter continues to trade under its original name, with a rebranding date not yet disclosed.
