Post Luxembourg to launch 5G on 16 October

9 Oct 2020

State-backed full-service operator Post Luxembourg has announced the commercial launch of its 5G service is scheduled for 16 October, when the first cell sites will be activated in the city of Luxembourg and other pilot zones using the 700MHz and 3.6GHz spectrum auctioned by the government earlier this year. 5G coverage will be steadily extended during 2021, starting with the Ettelbruck and Diekirch regions in the early part of the year and then urban areas in the south of the country, before the footprint is gradually extended to cover the rest of the country. Post notes it is continuing to make ‘substantial investments’ in its ‘network of the future’ alongside the 5G deployment, including the modernisation of its 4G mobile network.

Post has partnered with cloud gaming specialist Blacknut to promote the launch, enabling customers with the new ‘5G Power’ plan to access more than 400 streaming video games with connection speeds of up to 1Gbps and an allowance of 100GB of data. The operator will also introduce 5G to its SCOUBIDO and Business Europe plans for retail and business customers at no extra charge.
