Sweden allocates broadband funding for 44 rural areas

8 Oct 2020

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen, PTS) has selected the first 44 projects which will receive support from the government’s fund to promote the development of broadband infrastructure. Areas covered include parts of the counties of Blekinge, Varmland, Vasternorrland and Vastra Gotaland. The 44 schemes will be awarded subsidies totalling SEK106 million (USD11.9 million), from a fund of SEK136 million which has been made available for 2020. Further projects will be announced next month, the PTS says. The broadband fund is aimed at promoting rollouts in underserved rural areas where it is uneconomic for telcos to pursue commercial deployments.
