Montenegro considering 5G auction in Q4 2021

6 Oct 2020

Montenegro’s telecoms watchdog the Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (EKIP) will call an auction in the fourth quarter of 2021 to allocate 5G-suitable mobile spectrum, reports SeeNews. According to information contained in the body’s draft annual plan for 2021, which was submitted for parliamentary approval late last month, all resources from the 694MHz-790MHz and 3400MHz-3800MHz bands, as well as 1GHz of spectrum in the 24.25GHz-27.5GHz block (26.5GHz-27.5GHz), are expected to be made available for auction in the fourth quarter of 2021, with appropriate approvals granted at the end of the year or the beginning of 2022. In response to public concerns surrounding electromagnetic radiation, EKIP will also determine the conditions under which the installation of a 5G base station at a planned location will not be possible.
