Houston-based TravelWifi (formerly DHI Telecom Group), which describes itself as a provider of portable Wi-Fi devices for international travellers, has extended its reach into Indonesia via the acquisition of Wifi Republic. The Indonesian firm owns and operates a network of around 10,000 drop points for Wi-Fi hotspots via convenience stores Alfamart and Indomaret, and also has physical locations in Jakarta, Bekasi, Tangerang Selatan, Surabaya, Bali, Depok, Batam, Medan, Semarang, Bogor and Depok.
The buyout of Wifi Republic, TravelWifi’s sixth to date, follows the acquisition of mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and SIM card providers in the UK, France, Singapore and Latin America. ‘It just makes sense for Wifi Republic to join the growing family of TravelWifi companies,’ said Wallace Davis, CEO of TravelWifi. ‘The acquisition further strengthens our goal to become a global leader of mobile Wi-Fi solutions,’ he added.
TravelWifi now provides network connectivity in more than 130 countries.
