More than 250,000 VoLTE users in Estonia

1 Oct 2020

A study by Telia Eesti in Estonia shows that more than 250,000 people are now using VoLTE for 4G mobile calls in the country. Toivo Praakel, head of Telia Eesti’s Network and Infrastructure Unit, says that the 4G network now accounts for almost half of Telia’s total call traffic, with that share continuing to increase. Meanwhile, there are over 100 VoLTE-enabled handsets for customers to choose from.

Praakel commented: ‘A little more than four years ago, in July 2016, we started offering VoLTE voice service in our 4G mobile network. Prior to that, there was a predominant understanding that 4G was only intended for surfing the internet, downloading various internet content or watching videos.’ Estonia was home to an estimated 1.8 million mobile users at the end of June 2020, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
