Anatel to extend 850MHz spectrum rights until 2028

1 Oct 2020

Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel) has reportedly authorised cellcos with spectrum in the 850MHz band (806MHz-902MHz) to extend their concessions until 29 November 2028. According to TeleTime, around 90% of the respective licence fees will be converted into coverage obligations, with an emphasis on delivering 4G access to locations that are home to fewer than 30,000 inhabitants. The decision will impact Algar Telecom, Claro Brasil, Oi, Sercomtel and TIM Brasil.
