Hong Kong consults on 2.6GHz spectrum for 4G and 5G

24 Sep 2020

Hong Kong’s Communications Authority (CA) and Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) have launched a public consultation on the proposed arrangements for the reassignment of 90MHz of spectrum in the 2.5GHz-2.6GHz band for the provision of public mobile services. The spectrum was assigned to the incumbent operators in 2013 for 4G services, with their rights expiring in March 2024, and the CA is proposing a reallocation via competitive auction. ‘Prospective spectrum assignees may deploy the acquired spectrum in a technology neutral manner, including for the provision of 4G and 5G services,’ a spokesman for the CA said.
