Fixed and mobile operator Digicel (Dominica) marked the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria – a category five system that wreaked havoc and destruction when it passed over the country – by detailing some of the transformational works it put in place after the event to rebuild and, indeed improve, services. Digicel CEO Nikima Royer JnoBaptiste was quoted by Dominican News Online as saying that these efforts include connecting communities in the north of the island that have been without internet access to its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network. Specifically, this month Digicel hooked up 355 homes in Bense to the state-of-the-art network delivering download speeds of up to 50Mbps and access to HD TV services, it said. Further, next month it aims to connect a further 100 homes in Morne-A-Luis, and then in November, Penville will also come on stream with a further 478 homes passed.
