US fixed line operator CenturyLink has announced that it has rebranded itself as Lumen Technologies. In an accompanying statement, the telco explained: ‘CenturyLink has a new brand name and bold new purpose. As Lumen Technologies, or simply Lumen, the company will help lead enterprises through the challenges and opportunities of the 4th Industrial Revolution – a time when smart, connective devices are everywhere. Lumen brings a new focus to how it views the marketplace and the world with the purpose to further human progress through technology.’
While the telco notes that the CenturyLink brand will be retained for residential and small business customers ‘over traditional networks’ (i.e. xDSL platforms), Lumen has unveiled the Quantum Fiber brand for the delivery of fibre-based services to residents and small businesses.
Effective with the opening of the trading day on 18 September 2020, the company stock ticker will change from ‘CTL’ to ‘LUMN’. Going forward, the legal name of CenturyLink Inc. is expected to be formally changed to Lumen Technologies Inc. upon the satisfaction of all legal and regulatory requirements.
