Telefonica Espana (Movistar) has awarded Finnish vendor Nokia the contract to deploy 5G services to 75% of the Spanish population by the end of the year. The move means that Nokia is the only vendor to supply 5G radio technology to all of Telefonica’s 5G operations across Europe. In total the vendor says it has more than 150 commercial 5G engagements underway.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Movistar switched on its Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G network in unspecified Spanish locations on 1 September. The network utilises 3.5GHz spectrum, alongside refarmed 1800MHz and 2100MHz frequencies.
