Italian broadcaster RAI is said to be interested in taking a stake in a unified national broadband network operator should the proposed merger of infrastructure belonging to Telecom Italia (TIM) and Open Fiber go ahead. Il Sole 24 Ore writes that RAI is looking at possible investment in the venture, with a view to offering TV and video content over IP networks. Vivendi-backed broadcaster Mediaset declared its interest in the proposed combined networks business last week, although TIM CEO Luigi Gubitosi was quoted as saying: ‘The advantage of a content creator participating is not evident to me.’
